It's early November at Harugaizumi International School. Last week, the whole school put on a cultural festival, with the School Idol Club having a performance in the gym. You got a pretty decent turnout, but that's no reason to rest on your laurels; practice and school both continue this week! Have fun, check out the setting, and keep your ears open. You never know what opportunities will pop up for you!

[ And in comes Ryoko, not really bothering to announce herself as usual, before she makes a beeline for Carmel so she can nose over her shoulder like a rudegirl. ]

What do they have to say about us?

[Carmel just stops scrolling as Ryoko looks over her shoulder.]

They were really impressed with our special effects, but we still need some work, basically. So kind of what Prez told us.

Mmm...

[ Ryoko's brow knits together in a little frown. ]

That's a bit of a mixed bag. It's good that we're getting noticed at all, but I really don't want us to be known as just the special effects idols... I think we really need to buckle down and start pushing ourselves to really polish our act.

It's pretty good for a first review. The last time we tried to not be KiSeKi, the whole review was just mad we weren't immediately as good as them. [Carmel shrugs, turning off her phone.] That's why we disbanded.

[ She huffs with obvious annoyance – though at least this time, it's on Carmel's behalf. ]

This is a step up from that then, at least. We'll just have to make sure they don't have any choice but taking us seriously this time.

Oh yeah.

[Carmel immediately brightens, even if it's a little brittle around the edges.]

My sister says our songs are really good, by the way! I sent her a clip of our performance at the cultural festival and she told me that she believes in us.

[Her sister is an American pop star who goes by IZ. She won an X-Factor type show right before Carmel's family moved to Japan for work reasons.]

Oh, she did?

[ Ryoko's expression lightens just a bit. Sure, there's an element of Carmel's sister probably not wanting to totally trash her work, but... knowing Carmel as she does, Ryoko doesn't think any relative of Carmel's would sugarcoat her words if she thought the group was completely hopeless. ]

That's reassuring to hear... she's already had a debut of sorts, hasn't she? So she probably has a good idea of what our level of quality is.

[Carmel nods. Mostly because it's Ryoko, who might be able to benefit from this in a way the other girls won't, she says:]

Izzy said the hardest part of performing in a group was always remembering that you have to trust other people.

[That's never been a problem for her, because her family is big and they just taught her to believe the best in people. She knows it can be hard, though, and her job as a third year is to make sure that everyone can do that.]

You have to believe that they'll do their part and that's scary, because it's not really something you can control.

[ Ryoko doesn't necessarily look offended, but the way her eyebrows shoot up and then settle back down as her eyes narrow a touch make it clear that she at least considered it. After a moment, though, she just gives a sigh that sounds suspiciously like admitting defeat. ]

I can at least believe nobody wants to make a fool out of themselves on stage. And it's not as though anyone's been slacking that much on practice...
